BECAUSE TRUMP FAILED TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING DURING THE LONGEST GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN AMERICAN HISTORY

During Trump’s presidency, the government was forced to indefinitely shutdown on two occasions. In the latter instance, Trump allowed the work of the US government to remain idle for thirty-five days—the longest such stretch in American history—in a futile attempt to get Democratic Party leaders to agree to fund the building of a wall on the US-Mexico border. No such compromises were made before the stalemate concluded on January 29, 2019. The US economy is estimated to have lost $11 billion resulting from the 2018–2019 shutdown.
